Josh Green - From Fallujah to the VA: A Marines Life of Service

Show notes

Joshua Green grew up in Bardwell, Kentucky, a town of about 600 people, where he played basketball and baseball. He went on to pitch for Mid-Continent University. After 9/11, he decided to do something no one around him was doing. In 2005 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, choosing it because it had a reputation as the toughest branch. As a Military Police Marine with the 2nd Military Police Battalion, he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq, in 2006. There he ran more than 500 combat missions providing security for Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams and scouting high-risk convoy routes. He returned to Iraq in 2007–2008 as a squad leader, protecting convoys across Al Anbar Province and patrolling oil pipelines alongside the Iraqi Army. His awards include the Combat Action Ribbon and the Navy Unit Commendation. After active duty, Joshua spent years as a police officer, first for the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune and then with the Chattanooga VA Police. He later moved into the VA’s Whole Health program. Today he serves as the Volunteer Services Coordinator at the Chattanooga VA Outpatient Clinic, where he continues to serve the veterans he once served beside.
